A Bit About The Kids

A few notes on the kids:

A few days ago when Josh got Major out of bed in the morning, they had this conversation:

Josh: Did you sleep well?

Major: I dreamed about my whole life.

Josh: What did you dream?

Major: I dreamed about the Lord Jesus, and how I love Him.

Often, when we first hear Major in the morning, he is singing in his bed. This morning, we heard,

"This is the day, This is the day, that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made. I will rejoice, I will rejoice, and be glad in it and be glad in it! Psalm 118 verse 24."

Too cute.

Today, I was getting the kids and myself ready to go to the doctor. Here is the conversation that I had with Mary Alice:

Mary Alice: "Where are we going?"

Me: "To Dallas. We're going to the doctor."

Mary Alice: "Again?!?"

Me: "Yes."

Mary Alice: "Why do we have to go there again?"

Me: "Well, the doctor is trying to figure things out with me so that hopefully, I can have another baby."

Mary Alice: "That's silly, mom. Going to the doctor won't give you another baby. Only God gives babies! Doctors don't help give babies! Vitamins don't help give people babies! We have to wait for God....and he hasn't signed on it yet."

(I think the vitamin comment came b/c she had asked me another time why I was taking prenatal vitamins. My response, of course, was to help make my body healthy so that I could carry a baby! I am so glad that my little girl knows who is the true giver of life!)

Also, Mary Alice is in another play. What were we thinking??? Summer musicals are almost twice the time commitment of a Christmas play. Every night this month, her practices are supposed to last until 10:00. It is too hard on little ones, I think. I don't know that we would have let her try out for this one, had we known she would get to bed so late each night. We are normally strict observers of bedtimes here at the Smith house. It is sad to see my usually cheery, calm girl walking around with dark circles under her eyes. She is also bouncing off the walls! We were over at some friends' house the other night and another child remarked, "I think Mary Alice has had too much sugar!" Maybe not too much sugar, but too little sleep. Poor girl. This morning was the first morning I can remember in forever that she has woken up grumpy. She was tired. She is having tons of fun with her stage friends and is singing all around the house. I don't like these late practices, but I do like how being in musicals has affected her confidence. We have decided not to let her do drama camp this summer. She will also not be trying out for the Christmas musical. There. Since I put it in writing it is final! It is up to my blog readers to hold me to this!!!

Major has been a bit of a stinker lately, too. He has not been himself at all. We go through cycles with him. He is a booger bear deluxe when he doesn't get enough sleep! Yesterday, we had a friend over for lunch. This friend has a son who is a year older than Major. Major was rough with the boy, pulling him down and trying to tackle him. I was highly embarrassed of his rough behavior. When I asked him what was going on, he said, "We were just playing tackle, Mom!" Um. The other boy didn't seem to be having so much fun, as he was screaming, "Get off of me! Stop it!"

Major is also a big fan of Spiderman lately. Thanks to the new movie that is out, Spiderman is everywhere! Whenever he spots the paraphernalia, my sweet little guy turns into Spiderman, spinning webs and "shooting" them at people. He gets this funny face on and fiercely whispers, "Spidaman!" I find myself often thinking of my friend, Tamra's, little boy, Benjamin. I remember Benjamin shooting people at Mary Alice's birthday one year. He was about Major's age. It is crazy! I don't know how Major even knows about Spiderman. He certainly hasn't seen the movie, but, for some reason, he thinks Spiderman is the greatest. What a funny guy he is!

Also, Major has these shoes that he calls his dragon shoes. These shoes look a little bit like a dragon. There is one eye on each shoe.. He points them at people and growls. "Arrrgh!" He says, in a masculine, growly voice, "These are my dragon shoes! Arrgh!" He danced all around the store stomping and growling when the shoe salesman first put them on him. Perhaps this should have been my first clue that these shoes were nothing but trouble! He isn't mean to people or anything (except for the poor boy who fell victim to his tackling games), just masculine and rough. I am glad that he is masculine. I just wish he wouldn't be so crazy sometimes. Maybe next time he needs shoes, we will look for some shoes that will evoke different emotions, like tranquility, or courteousness, or obedience. Right now, I have a half dragon boy half Spidey guy. But he sure is cute...

Also, Major has a habit of telling anyone he encounters, "I have on underwear."
That's great, Major. He will also tell you that he is three years old and that, when he is four years old, he will wear even bigger underwear. He is full of fun facts about himself.

Mary Alice and Major are such blessings. I am so thankful for them every day. I'm going to go spend some time with that sweet girl of mine before I have to ship her off to play practice yet again.

I'm so with you on this post. I hate busyness for our family. We are so busy with baseball right now, I don't know if we are coming or going.

That is crazy that Mary Alice's play practice ends at 10! That does seem quite late. I'm glad she has fun though!

Like Major, I am obsessed with Spiderman. For whatever reason, I love those movies even though I hate most comic book movies. Because of my love for Spiderman, Jackson has a couple Spiderman sippie cups, a Spiderman Mr. Potato Head knows as Spidey Spud and a cheapo Wal-Mart tank top. He doesn't even care about Spiderman. He would much prefer Tigger or Wiggles clothing.

I love reading about your kids. Mary Alice seems so wise beyond her years. You guys have done an amazing job with your kids. I will be praying about your doctor's appointment results. I hope you get some answers and some good news!

We are all boy at our house too! I can completely relate to the Spiderman bit...although it does come in handy when I tell him to "web" his toys and it gets him to pick them up without too much trouble. We have dinosaur pajamas instead of shoes so at least he doesn't wear them out of the house. It's all a learning experience for this girly-girly!

So sweet to read about your kids. I love the heart of children.

I bought a few things at the curriculum fair, but I have been blessed with some friends that are passing stuff down for me to use. And I think my approach to kindergarten is going to be pretty laid back(I just mean I'm not going to get stressed over picking the right curriculum). I can see how confusing it will be beyond our first year because there are SO many options! I am thankful for those doing this ahead of me who can give suggestions. And it will be fun to learn with/from you!
